Animal Care

We are adding a small animal encounter area with two Scottish Highland cows, three goats, ducks, two pigs, and a chicken pen for egg production. This project may expand to include other local animals as well.

We seek someone who loves animal care and has some farm experience to help tend animals and maintain their living conditions. This portion of your responsibilities will be part-time and may include leading guest encounters with the animals, such as walking the Scottish cows around campus and inviting children to come and meet them. Animal care will only be part of the responsibilities, with the remaining time dedicated to grounds maintenance and beautification. If you have experience working on a farm or are passionate about it, you may have the relevant experience we are looking for.

Responsibilities:

  • Feed the animals and ensure they have water at all times
  • Stock feed (order)
  • Clean enclosures
  • Maintain “pasture,” clearing manure if needed
  • Walk the cows and goats around the resort, allowing guests to interact
  • Harvest eggs daily
  • Coordinate with beekeeper to harvest honey and ensure colonies are healthy

This position is full-time and has the possibility of housing inclusive. You must be older than 21 and have a clean driving record with a valid driver’s license. We will accept candidates from anywhere; however, you must be able to speak English fluently if it is not your first language. If you qualify for housing, you will share a two-bedroom apartment with the maintenance supervisor close to the resort, and Timberroot will pay for utilities. We understand this is a unique job with an excellent mix of tasks, but this can also be a forward-facing position, so you must be comfortable assisting guests when given the opportunity and introducing them to our animals.

We seek an individual with a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and high integrity. We do not tolerate laziness or gossip in our team. Our resort is run by a dedicated team of professionals who take great pride in managing Chattanooga’s largest rustic resort. This could be a fantastic opportunity if you enjoy serving others, meeting new people, and working as part of a committed team. You will have access to a company vehicle when necessary.

Compensation:

  • $15 an hour plus housing if you qualify, $18 an hour without housing
  • 100% employee health coverage with an HRA
  • Actively accrued PTO
  • Floating holidays
  • Up to 2.5% contribution to 401K
  • Life insurance
  • Long-term disability
