Sunset Rock is a scenic bluff with sweeping views of the Tennessee River and downtown Chattanooga. A favorite for hikers, photographers, and sunset watchers, it’s located within the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park and accessible via a short hike from either Cravens House or the small West Brow Road parking area.
Trailhead Information
- West Brow Road Trailhead: Short, direct access (0.1 miles) via a steep stone staircase leading to the bluff. No signage at the road, but easily identifiable by the cut stone steps.
- Cravens House Trailhead: Access via the Bluff Trail, which is about 1 mile one-way with moderate elevation gain and several switchbacks. Trail surface includes dirt, rocks, and exposed roots.
Parking Info
- Primary Parking: Limited roadside parking is available at the Sunset Rock Trailhead on West Brow Road (look for a stone stairway leading down into the woods).
- Overflow/Alternate: Park at Cravens House (1 Cravens Terrace, Chattanooga, TN 37409) and hike approximately 1 mile uphill via the Bluff Trail.
- Note: Parking at West Brow fills quickly—arrive early, especially on weekends. No overnight parking allowed.

The trail and lookout are open daily from sunrise to sunset. No camping or after-dark access is permitted.
