Hickory Nut Falls
This 404-foot waterfall at Chimney Rock Park is one of the highest waterfalls east of the Mississippi River. The trail takes you to a platform at the bottom of the cascade featured in the movie, The Last of the Mohicans. Especially impressive after a good rain.

Dry Falls
This spectacular 75-ft. waterfall has two great features: it’s roadside and you can walk behind it! It’s located in the Nantahala National Forest along US Highway 64 near Highlands.

Sunburst Falls
Sunburst Falls is literally right next to the Highway 215, and crosses under a gorgeous curved 1930s stone bridge. The water flows through an arch in the bridge and plummets into some smaller falls below the bridge.

Linville Falls
Linville Falls drops 90 ft. into the 12-mile long Linville Gorge with cliffs towering above the river. A moderate hike of 1.6 miles round-trip offers four overlooks, add another 1.5-mile hike for two more vistas.

This 25-ft. waterfall cascades into a calm pool to create a picturesque setting for sure. It’s located four miles south of Cashiers and accessed by a short trail in the Nantahala National Forest. A popular summer swimming hole.

Soco Falls
This rare twin waterfall is located roadside near Maggie Valley and Cherokee. You can easily miss it since there are few signs! The observation deck is a short walk from a small parking area. You can also hike down to the base of both falls.

Lemon Falls
Lemon Falls is a charming 15-foot waterfall located in the Pisgah National Forest. It’s a lesser-known waterfall, making it an ideal spot for nature lovers seeking a quieter experience. The 0.1-mile trail to the waterfall is short but very steep and may be challenging for younger children. The best time to visit is from March through November, and dogs are welcome but must be leashed.

This 60ft waterfall is accessed by a 1.5 mile hike, that gets a little steep towards the end, but provides you with a nice overview of Graveyards Fields and what it has to offer.

Wildcat Falls
Wildcat Falls is a 60-foot waterfall in Pisgah National Forest, just a mile from the Blue Ridge Parkway on the Forest Heritage Scenic Byway (NC Highway 215). Since it’s on a small tributary to the West Fork of the Pigeon River, it’s best after good rains. This high elevation waterfall (above 5,000 feet) is just a trickle during dry spells.
